We wanted to put together this section, basically to inform the beginner & even the advance Scooter Riders with a new or older scooters. And that have little knowledge about scooters that run on 'Air Cooled Scooter Engines'.
We believe that it is never to late to learn new techniques, or even sharpen them a little. For the most part, there are a few website out there that offer a large amount of information on scooter techniques and know hows.
You can also visit our main site by entering our 'About Us' and on your left hand side of the page you'll find a link call GY6 Instructions. There you will find much information about how to solve many problem you may be facing with your 50cc,125cc,150cc, 250cc & 300cc scooter engines.
But one of the most important topics we want to talk about, and that is reason why we put this page together. Is how can we keep our scooter engine as cool as possible and working at it optimum performance? Well for the most part, a good change of oil will definitely help. Most common scooter problems always comes right back to how often do we change the oil on our scooters. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind on changing our oil:
Generic oil change & maintenance schedule:
Every 250 miles or 1 month:
- Check engine oil and battery levels. Add the proper fluid if necessary.
- Check and adjust tire pressure.
- Check all lights and horn to be sure they are working, and replace bulbs as necessary.
Every 1000 miles or 6 months, in addition to the above:
- Change engine oil on four stroke models (and oil filter if applicable).
- Check tires for wear and cracking.
- Check for smooth operation of brakes and throttle. Lube cables and pivot points as necessary
- Check all fasteners/fittings and tighten as necessary.
- On the two stroke scooters check for proper operation of the oil pump, and adjust if necessary
Every 3000 miles or 1 year, in addition to the above:
- Change the transmission oil.
- Clean out the air cleaner and dampen the foam filters with motor oil (as appropriate - foam filters only).
- Replace the spark plug (not really needed on the four strokes, but it's cheap).
- Check brake and clutch shoe linings.
- Check/clean/lubricate brake and throttle cables.
- Check drive belt for wear and cracks. Replace as necessary.
- Drain the crankcase breather tube (4 strokes only, if so equipped)
Note: Oil Changes are important to follow up on, yet its not enough. But our main goal here and its the reason why we put this page together; are to find other ways to keep our engines running at top performance, by providing other means of cooling or enough ventilation so our engine do not suffer from over heating. If you are aware, our scooter have been provide with an OEM fan and a fan cover to help draw in air to cool our engine. But thats NOT enough!
